DAVE WINFIELD VISITS W. J. OAKES BRANCH

Dave WinfieldBoys and girls at the William J. Oakes Branch were honored when Hall of Famer Dave Winfield stopped by to show them a thing or two about baseball. Winfield joined members for an afternoon of fun and learning. More than 100 kids benefited from the clinic, learning the basics of throwing, fielding and batting.

"It was a great opportunity to come out and give these kids a little one-on-one," Winfield said. "I really relate to them."

Following the clinic, more than 500 club kids from around San Diego County were treated to the Padres game, thanks to the generosity of Claritin. Winfield joined the kids in the outfield during the game and handed out American flags.

During his time with the Padres, Winfield gave tickets for every home game to Boys & Girls Club members. That section became known as "Winfield's Pavilion."

"It was a treat for the kids to have the opportunity to attend a pro-baseball game," said Michelle Regan, Director of Operations.

"This was a first for many of them."

Winfield, the first San Diego Padre to go into the Hall of Fame, played for the Padres the first seven years of his career. He is one of many athletes who support the club regularly.
